To sum up then, nobody here knows where small BA ring and combination spanners are available for Colin to buy.

          Hello Roger,

R.S. Components is the current name for the organisation. It used to be Radiospares and they changed to RS about 40 odd years ago (I stand to be corrected on when the change happened!).

          Andrew.

I remember their catalogue which needed several large volumes and that we received several editions each year. There always seemed to be piles of the things.laugh

This is the eBay listing I referred to for NOS BA ring spanner sets:

I'm glad to have a set, but not so sure about their utility (especially 4BA and below which aren't bi-hexagon).

Seem to think Blackgates had the laser cut ones on the counter a month ago.

I had not quite envisaged the responses when I put up what I though was a fairly simple request. Thanks for the many replies. Have opted for the NOS set that Brian linked to. Thank you Brian.

I do have a 1/4" drive set with a full range of BA sockets but they tend to be a bit on the large side.

Its coming up for Christmas present ideas – This set of Ba Sockets 0 to 10ba are exquisite and come from one of our regular suppliers Mac Models. They are 1/4" drive and the set comes with just the sockets (because you probably have a 1/4" wrench).

I bought one of those laser cut sets a few shows back though I've never used them. But I asked whether they were BA or metric and they said it didn't matter as the metric sizes would fit close BA nuts. I found this table somewhere, may be useful.

                        Number BA

BA spanner size across flats in decimal inches.

                        Metric equivalent

                        10BA

                        .117 inches.

                        2.97mm

                        9BA

                        .131 inches

                        3.33 mm

                        8BA

                        .152 inches

                        3.86mm

                        7BA

                        .172 inches

                        4.37mm

                        6BA

                        .193 inches

                        4.90mm

                        5BA

                        .220 inches

                        5.59mm

                        4BA

                        .248 inches

                        6.30mm

                        3BA

                        .282 inches

                        7.16mm

                        2BA

.324 inches (Probably the most commonly used BA size)

                        8.23mm

                        1BA

                        .365 inches

                        9.27mm

                        0BA

                        .413 inches

                        10.49mm.

After all it doesn't matter what size is stamped on the spanner, only whether it fits well enough to be able to apply the desired torque without taking the corners off the nut.
