had the annual list of training and courses come out at work last night.

got us to talking at brewtime about learning new skills.

if you could choose one new skill or call it what you want what would it be?

i'd love to try blacksmithing and forging.

Forging for me too – preferably banknotes

I'd like to be a much better welder than I am at the moment.

A skill I'd like to lose would be my ability to make scrap.

I’ve already got more hobbies than I can handle. Perhaps clock repair for winter or CNC conversion for one of my mills.

A new skill:-

I would like an ability to find the time I need for all my outstanding jobs and hobbies which seem to be dropping further and further down the to do list!

Including moving the Myford from the old to new home before I get too old to use it.

Regret not having taken up two opportunities to go blacksmithing. Don't know of any day courses within reasonable distance so must delete from the bucket list.

Pity, so satisfying to make steel plastic at red heat. Can't think of a use for the average twisted shank poker or toasting fork, either

Slow down time. Like many others have more hobbies than time to do them all, fishing, photography, model,steam, woodwork to name a few. Did blacksmithing, foundry and welding as a side to ordinary machine shop work in my first year at technical college many moons ago. All have been useful over the years when visiting customers worksites. Perhaps now would like to improve my cnc programming skills.

I did a two and a half day Blacksmiths course with Peat Oberon and it was great fun. His enthusiasm for the craft is infectious!

Like many others too many hobbies and work is still getting in the way. Did a couple of hedgelaying courses a few year's back. That's a nice rural skill to keep going. Backed that up with a chainsaw skills course earlier this year. I had a go at welding during my apprenticeship many years ago. That would be nice to do properly. The same goes for CAD.

Building in cob, or welding, or blacksmithing, or sand casting. Those are the skills I'd like most. I'd also like to do slightly less rustic brickwork and plastering. Finally, silver/gold smithing. Then glasswork, enamelling, stone cutting. Oh heck, just 'making anything really well' would do me.
