I think we may need a separate thread "who has got the most blocks"smile p

Anyone got the 15-30-60 size that Uncle Ketan has quietly slipped into his range without even putting them on the new products page?

Sorry I didn't get around to it. This size was one of Johns last requests… something to do with being a good size for use with the 80mm versatile vice, but I couldn't fully work out how or why…. maybe used in similar way to parallels, laid flat.

      Ketan at ARC.

Also a good idea to check that both blocks measure the same , i have a set where one block is a few thou under on one dimension which makes them useless as parallels !

Agreed. The only way i could see the 15-30-60 being used in the 80mm versatile vice was if only one piece was used laid flat so that the 15mm is the height.

Confession, I tend to use the stepped triangles in my clamping set as rough and ready blocks

            disgust !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's so bad? Plenty of applications like stops or raising things off the mill table for boring don't need extreme accuracy, just an easily clamped lump of metal.

Not so bad, I had never thought of using them like thatblush thumbs up

I would think the key here is the 6mm thread allowing a smaller bolt to pass through an item to attach it instead of M8 for the bigger block while being bigger than the small block for clearance. Also does the 80mm vice open to 80mm to accept the larger block in that orientation?
They do seem a nice size and cost to be birthday presents from partners.

                .

Interesting how things change with the times, and the target market

[ I guess they call it product development ]

The 'metrolgy' ones were matched to within 0.0002" of nominal dimensions, and I presume they are still available like that; at commensurate price.

I've just been looking on a well known auction site for 1,2,3 blocks and found this, I'm baffled!

                  Grinding block matching pair. 123. 1.684" x 2.9930" x 3.8875". Good condition

Seller probably put 123 into the description to get more people to find the item. Just like those who put"Myford, Boxford Colchester Harrison" all into the title of anything to do with a lathe
