Thats a saying round here to mean someones had a stroke of luck, the inference being that you come up with a salmon in your mouth.

I’ve been struggling with this tiny lathe for a bit now and someone told me of a fellow offloading an old lathe out of his workshop. So I went and looked at it. And came away with a Smart and Brown A series Mk II for £400.

Man oh man what a lovely machine, no more chatter, I can part off, it doesn’t rattle etc etc.

Didn’t have much in the way of extras with it, but the very generous souls at my local SME (PEEMS) have been helping me out with advice and bits and pieces.

      I’m dead pleased

Hi Wolfie, some people always come outta the xxxx, I mean the muck smelling of roses.

But seriously I hope you enjoy your latest acquirement.

          Regards Nick.

Nice lathes, S&Bs. We have a 1024 at work, and just about the only thing I don’t like about it is the self-act direction knob mechanism. I have a strong suspicion that the Model A one is better!

But if you’ve snagged a decent one for £400, you’ve almost certainly got a bargain.

Serious bit of kit there Wolfie – no problems with rigidity now.
Take care though – you won’t stop that one in a hurry !

Happy turning – Oh and buy a big dustbin ready for all the swarf.

              Regards

Are you sure it’s a salmon you’d get in your mouth?

Wolfie Wolfie, that’s what I call a stroke of luck!!! You see the drool dripping down here?

Is there still room in your Mom’s garage, or did she have to sell the car?

Let’s hope they didn’t ask such a low price due to some hidden problem… But in case…all can be repaired with a bit of elbow grease and good will.

                        Greetings, Hansrudolf
