      Hi to you all I am new to this site.my question is I have to look at the main Bering the one near the chuck it has a small amount of up and down play in it has any one got any advice to sorting it out.

          Assuming it's a plain bearing ML7 remove some shim from under the bearing cap and then scrape the bearing back in. If no shims left you need new bearings.

          If it has the Super 7 cone bearing they can be adjusted but may need scraping. I posted a lot on adjustment on the Yahoo myford group site some time ago. I think you will find various bits and pieces in their file section.

            Between the Cap and the Headstock you should find a shim pack on each side.

            If you measure the Up and Down movement, this should tell you how much to peel off the each of the laminated shims. (It ought to be the same for each pack)
