I purchased in 1978 2 castings and a set of plans from Clarksons of York in order to build the dividing head designed by L H Sparey.

Well last week I finished it and I have put 2 not very good photos in my album..The gears on the banjo are for illustrative purposes and are not meant to represent a set up.

Can anyone else beat me for longevity of time in building a simple device.

Well in 1953 aged 12 and spurred on by the Eagle comic I started to build a spaceship.

          Haven't got there yet.

Well done Jonathon, that would make an interesting short write up for MEW

I am sure I can find a non-engineering project I started in 78 or earlier to finish off and pip you

One of my good friends at school (back in the 1960s) was known to all and sundry as Mekon. He wouldn't hurt a fly!

One of my Physics teachers at school (back in the 1950's) was also known as The Mekon. I don't know about flies but he would most certainly hurt schoolboys …. meter rule over the head – sideways! He reckoned to break them (the metre rules) three times before he got a new one.

he did look very much like The Mekon though.

I once watched Blue Peter in the late 60's where they showed grinding a telescope mirror, (looked about 4" dia).
Finally finished a 10" F6 to 1/25 wave of yellow light in 2002?

We had a metalwork master 'Cog' Wheeler who use a strip of brazing rod on miscreants when sitting on the shop stools, that stings, and concentrates the mind.

Well if we want to get into sadistic schoolmasters and away from the thread (what a drift) one of our history masters in the late 50s early 60s used to use a cricket bat most effectively. He never needed to say anything all was quiet in the classroom.
