using tct saw blade

just found an old tct circular saw blade.

its in good nick was off saw that packed up.

is it possible / safe to cut strip out with tooth on to use as parting off tool?

Hi,

It may depend on the weight (quality ) of you blade, I tried this with a cheap (thin) blade and the result was useless – no rigidity. Best not ruin a good blade for no good purpose.

PS. If the blade is no good you can remove the teeth to use on other tools.

I tryed on a fairly light blade, not a good idea. But I collect old blades from building sites, remove the tips, and braze the tips to bits of scrap steel to make small tools, including boring bars. You will see that the tips are angled left and right, so you have to choose the tip for the job. Ian S C

Think Ian's is the best plan, but if you are a subscriber have a look at MEW no 62, page 16, (Nov 1999),to see the Canadian way of making a parting tool from an old saw blade.
