      Hi,

Total beginners question, but can anyone help me identify the collet below? It’s out of an old mill (unbranded / homemade?)I bought off eBay.

      Dimensions are:

      – widest point : 0.52” (13.3mm)

      – ‘neck’: 0.42” (10.6mm)

      – overall length: 0.57” (14.5mm)

I've only got one, so any advice as to where I can get more (UK) or a starter set would be very welcome!

      Thanks in advance

      Ross

Welcome Ross, I'm afraid you will have to explain a bit better, I presume you have a mill. You could try googling milling collet systems, a picture will probably set you on the right track.

                    Ross,

I don't think I've seen that one before … but you might find something similar in here: **LINK**

                    http://www.rotagriponline.com/datasheets/5C.pdf

[don't worry about the 5C filename, it's a full catalogue]

The problem is … Crawford don't make the wide range of designs that they once did.

Looks to be from a Marlco or similar indexing unit often used on horizontal mills, have a look here to see a set – no indexing tool though **LINK**

That's what I wondered, John … but are the Marlco ones slit from both ends ?

Age-related brain fade is getting to me sad

Agree with John Haine, that is Taig / Peatol available from Peatol or MEDW as they are used on the CNC micromill. I think the largest size is 1/4 dia.

I have a left over set of those collets from my old peatol – long since moved on.

Here is another type altogether – this is a 1/4" collet.:

                                  collet.jpg

                                  Overall length = 27.00mm

Rear locating register diameter = 9.98mm

                                  Any ideas what for?

Appreciate all the comments / suggestions, thanks all.

Mine looks like an older version of the Peatol mill and definitely those collets.

Nice to have such a helpful response to such a basic question.

The collet shape is very similar to the collet in my Porter Cable router.
