Tell ‘Em Straight! (Anti-virus sellers)

I use Norton but it has one very irritating habit.

Today it sent a customer-satisfaction survey.

Q1: One a scaleof 0 to 10, rate the service.

Q2: State why you judgment.

My answers:

A1: 3

A2: ” Your very irritating unsolicited-sales habit of bombarding me with annoucements of all sort of supposed faults you can miraculously cure if I only cross your palms with my credit-card. That’s how the scammers used to operate!”

I’ve had Norton on my laptops & Android phones for years. To be honest I don’t think I’ve ever had any of the sort of unsolicited sales communications you indicate.

It seems to just sit there, scan regularly and update itself without any interaction from me. It occasionally notified me that it has blocked access to a ‘dangerous’ site, usually when from a link in something else. So it seems to just do what it’s supposed to.

There have been previous recent topics about the usefulness of 3rd party products like Norton so won’t go over old ground.

I had a similar issue recently when my contract ran out, following lots of sound advice from other members of this forum I have ditched Norton and just use Microsoft Defender.

So far so good!
