I am getting a bit fed-up with Myford oil guns and the lubrication of my big bore Myford. Ten years ago there was an article in the MEW about fitting a one-shot oil system to a Myford ML7. The parts came from Arc Euro Trade and for some time they sold a kit for the lathe.

I would like to know if anyone fitted the system and, if so, what they thought of it. Better still, if anyone modified the system for use on a later Myford.

I think Arc still have a few of the required parts in their "Clearance" section.

I did think about this when the original article was published but frankly it seemed quite complicated to do every oiling point. I think if I was to do something like this, I would just try to supply the hard-to-reach points (like the back of the saddle) with a simpler system. Some of my other machines might benefit from this too – maybe as simple as an extended pipe to make the oil point accessible without breaking my neck or moving the machine.

Many thanks for the replies. I am not taking this any further.

I am not sure if there is any experience with this system.

Looking at my lathe there are at least four oiling points that will give problems if oil feeds are attached –

                    1. Two in the gear train to the gearbox which will prevent gears being swapped between normal feed and thread cutting.
                    2. The feed on to the headstock belt pulley.
                    3. The feed to the top of the saddle which will foul the DRO sensor.

I see little point in having only half a system.

I have fitted Hydraulic type grease nipples (used strictly for oil) to the carriage rear and front apron. Sealed carriage front (on top) point and drilled horizontally to match and fitted same for front shear lub. Base of tailstock modified for single point lub and fitted same. Oil cups retained where fitted and later Myford oilgun is quite suited to other points.
