Hello!
I just thought I’d introduce myself, I’m Robert and I am the author of the recent MEW article about Alibre Atom 3D.
A little background info: I run a mechanical design consultancy in Newcastle developing various things, including lots of machined and fabricated components (I’ve also had a fair bit of hands on experience with lathes, milling machines as well as 3D printing). I have also provided classroom based training for Alibre CAD and I’ve got an online course up and running covering Atom 3D for anyone interested.
CAD wise, I use Alibre as my main system, and I am also familiar with quite a few other CAD systems. I have used Rhino since the late 1990’s, I regularly work with SolidWorks for a long term customer. My first introduction to parametric modelling was Pro Engineer (more recently rebranded as Creo) when I was at university. I’ve also worked extensively with reverse engineering tools such as QuickSurface and Geomagic Design X to convert 3D scan data into CAD.
If anyone has general questions on CAD modelling or reverse engineering I’m happy to assist.
