Perhaps the "Bodgers Lodge" series could be extracted and kept as a link rather than just left as a thread

Here's a link for the time being. Today's Update from Bodger's Lodge For some reason, the pictures aren't showing on my PC though.

A gentleman who will be sadly missed by many.

Condolences to his family and friends.

I'll remember him every time a cut a metric thread on my lathe; John sent me a pair of gears for the Myford last time he made a batch, so he lives on in my workshop too.

I suggest using Google site search on the front page with 'John Stevenson' plus what subject you are interested in in teh search box..

While many may like to see John's postings collected or organised in some way there are two issues: Firstly, many of his posts only make sense in context.

Secondly, and more importantly, many forum users are very sensitive about their posts and images being used in ways they never intended. If anyone is to collect or republish John's 'nuggets' this would have to be with permission from his family.

Some years ago, I had a vituperative quarrel with John on the uk.rec.models.engineering Usenet group, but introduced myself to John when he was on the ArcEuro trade stand at the Midlands show and we cleared the air.

John was very helpful then with my intended projects. (Under the bench today, incomplete )

Subsequently, I had many email conversations with John to do with the gear hobbing processes after I had written the Hobnail spreadsheet for Giles Parkes.

I suggested to John that he would be well situated to assist Giles' daughter with the disposal of the workshop contents and introduced them to each other, although I've had no contact with either party since. (This was because it would have been difficult for me being so far to the south in Chippenham, Wiltshire)

John's passing is a sad loss, coming so soon after Giles' passing.

Is there a link to His obituary? I would like to know more about Him and do not know if this is done across the pond. Google only finds obits over here.

Not having visited this forum for some weeks I was very saddened to come across this thread.
There is not much that I can add to what has already been said, other than reiterating that John Stevenson was a truly generous human being. I am sure that I am not the only one to have more than once unexpectedly received welcome advise via private message.

He is sure to be missed in many online forums, not only for his vast store of engineering know how, but also for the sheer entertainment value that he added to any thread he participated in.

                      Well, this is bad news.

I met him after he bought some software from me, some 14 years ago.

A very generous man with vast expertise and experience.

Another sad loss to the community.

                      My condolences to his relatives.

It's not often I reply to thread like this but in this case I genuinely feel a loss.

I met John a couple of times, the last time he called round he was with Debs and some good stories were exchanged.

During one such story the cat came into the kitchen, looked around, jumped up onto the sink and took a piss in it (the one and only time he's ever done that – that I'm aware of).

Immediately John moved onto the subject of workshop toiletry facilities…

He promised me a return visit sadly now not to be.

I have read the foregoing posts within this thread with considerable pleasure.

It`s been very comforting in the weeks since John`s passing away, to read of how many people have enjoyed and benefited from his contributions, both here and elsewhere in the engineering-oriented internet.

John spent many hours, often {far too} late into the night, making and reading contributions on various 'fora', and when challenged as to why he`d come to bed so late, would simply reply: "Somebody was wrong on the internet!"…….it summed up his wry humour, commitment and wish to help, perfectly.

His 'no-nonsense' outlook and genuine wish to share his experience, skills and knowledge, was occasionally lost in translation between his heart and the keyboard, it might seem; but anyone who knew the 'flesh and blood' John, or had benefited from his advice in the open forum, or via private message, would surely understand where his motivations lay.

He was a practical innovative engineer, an altruistic and generous teacher, a good friend, and a darling husband; I miss him terribly.
