I have read the foregoing posts within this thread with considerable pleasure.
It`s been very comforting in the weeks since John`s passing away, to read of how many people have enjoyed and benefited from his contributions, both here and elsewhere in the engineering-oriented internet.
John spent many hours, often {far too} late into the night, making and reading contributions on various 'fora', and when challenged as to why he`d come to bed so late, would simply reply: "Somebody was wrong on the internet!"…….it summed up his wry humour, commitment and wish to help, perfectly.
His 'no-nonsense' outlook and genuine wish to share his experience, skills and knowledge, was occasionally lost in translation between his heart and the keyboard, it might seem; but anyone who knew the 'flesh and blood' John, or had benefited from his advice in the open forum, or via private message, would surely understand where his motivations lay.
He was a practical innovative engineer, an altruistic and generous teacher, a good friend, and a darling husband; I miss him terribly.
