Not something I've done, I get automatic updates and virus scans, computer sometimes a bit cranky afterwards, one of these killed my Youtube a while ago, started working again with the next update. Oops! not just Firefox, same problem with other search engines. No warning or flag showing, search just fails with or without timed out message. I wondered if there was something going on, Google recently shut out HSM site. Oh well, looks like it's my system then. Too cold tonight, will get 7lb hammer from shed and fix tomorrow.

Might well be the problem. I haven't used automatic updates in several years. Mozilla is trying to compete with Chrome and releases new versions at frequent issues that can only be described as beta-test versions (and that's being kind) which have limited testing. Look at mozilla.support.firefox to see why I think this is a cause for concern.

Unless you like living on the "bleeding edge" you might want to consider sticking with the esr's

Thanks to all. Still doesn't connect, timed out message. Not had this problem with any other site. Although I could previously view the site and place ads I have never been able to sign in, I emailed Adam about this some time ago, he thought I may have been blocked by a Hotmail server.

This is why I'm not into CNC machining, if I want my milling machine table cut in half, I'll do it myself!

As of tonight, Wednesday 10th of Feb we have had a message from our server centre saying they are having some problems.

So for once it's not us wink

Normal service will be resumed as soon as they have sorted their end out.

AVG won't cause certificate problems. It's OK to use it.

If only one site is causing certificate errors then the fault is at their end. Don't trust the site until they fix the problem.

If you are getting certificate errors from many different websites then a common cause is that your computer's internal clock is wrong, probably because the BIOS battery is dying. Although the clock should be automatically corrected by an internet time server there will be a period during which strange and confusing things happen.  The clock goes wrong again when the machine is switched off.

                                Regards,

                                Dave

How old is your `puter? & therefore, its Motherboard battery? My ageing desktop was giving trouble and finally refused to boot up, displaying a black screen with white lettering (called "reverse block" in print trade) and large title, "American megatrends". I replaced the knackered motherboard battery (CR2032) then read down the page and near the bottom it said "press F2" and it promptly booted up OK. Just ran an update and virus scan.

I've had the same problem which I blamed on Windows 10 updating. My present computer is fairly new and fast so the old one using Vista was set aside for being old and slow. Decided a few weeks ago to buy a 250GB SSD and fitted this to the old machine. Should have done so before and would have saved a pot of money. Fitted the SSD as the primary drive and use the old 500GB drive for storage. Now I have all my old sites back, including Workshop, without the never ending windows updates from Microsoft
