Things being 'improved ' when they don't need to be.

Surveys were '21% of people think that…….' That's means 79% disagree!

Scan codes used assuming everyone has a smart phone…..I've just converted my phone from clockwork to butane gas!

Getting 10% extra free when the items have shrunk in size (mars bars, sausages etc…)

8 finger rolls, 6 hot dog sausages

And finally, hands free soap dispensers – why? (I always wash My hands after dispensing said soap!!! sarcastic

Rant over! (But I may be back……….)

      Cheers, Pete

In Australia a ball point pen was originaly made by "Biro" and their trade name was what we called a pen. The new generation just calls it a pen.

The common expression that I see in a lot of GB posts is "Hoovering" the floor. Not vacuum that is used here. How many people actually use a Hoover made vacuum cleaner?

        Bah humbug, I say !

When people say "I got something for free".

          AAAaaaarrggh…………

Or worse: "I won it for free off of …."

Stuff that's so poorly designed it is horrible to use: eg electronic devices with multiple functions that are operated by just four buttons. So you have to learn sequences like press #3&4 together, whilst simultaneously rubbing your head, patting your stomach and singing the Elbonian national anthem backwards in a falsetto, just to turn on the record function.

There's no excuse for this now that small touch screens are cheap, but all the effort is then put into constantly 'improved' icons that are the visual equivalents of cryptic crossword clues.

The local Morrisons petrol station has just installed new petrol pumps. They include a pay at the pump facility. The small display says "Press the key to pay at the kiosk". Unfortunately there is nothing to tell you which key to press, so now each pump now has a pieice of tape on it with an arrow in felt marker pen pointing to the correct button.

The misuse by journalists of a technical word that they don't understand.

E.g. Epicentre – the point on the earth above the origin of an earthquake. Not " Liverpool has become the epicentre of the outbreak in the NorthWest". Is there some deep seated hotspot below Liverpool, the Cavern Club perhaps?

                  Bah!

Do Australians still think Sellotape (transparent adhesive tape) is called Durex? In the UK, a Durex is a Condom. Optimistic young Brits out for the night in Canberra are disappointed, whilst Australian Grannies visiting London have difficulty explaining their purchase to traumatised grand-children.

And the inability for those who can cause Armageddon to start (American Presidents going back to the forties) by pressing the NEW QUE LAR button rather than the NEW CLEAR one. Many Brit presenters are falling into the trap. Americanism I've heard was sodder, as in sod off.

It's best practice to define the acronym the first time you use it. I don't want to repeatedly read 'Quick Change Tool Post' multiple times in a paragraph when QCTP does the same job.

Like many others, one thing that annoys me is the progressive corruption of the English language by those too lazy to use it correctly, usually news presenters and tv journalists.

My top hates are: 'compared to' and 'different to' (Aarrrrgh) which should be 'compared with' and 'different from', vunnerable instead of vulnerable, 'coop' instead of 'coupe' (pronounced 'coopay&#39 when describing a 2-door car, and beginning every sentence with 'So' as others have previously mentioned.
