I can't express enthusiasm [only lust] for those other machines, Jason … simply because I haven't used them.

My comments were in the context of the fact that a BCA is available.

        Quite understand Michael.

It may also be worth pointing out to Alex who may not be familiar with the BCA type machines is that although they do indeed have a very nice 8" rotary table it is fixed in the horizontal position and in the long term if this is to be a sole milling machine the lack of ability to have a vertical or any other angle for that matter rotary table may be a factor in choosing a suitable machine.

The relatively low head room on the BCA does not lend itself well to use with a small vertical rotary table so thought should be given to the possibility of using a milling spindle and dividing in that lathe and also how any future work can be accommodated.

Not trying to put anyone off a BCA or cost Phil's friend a sale but not something to rush into just a something that may suit is available

Alex While not wanting to put a damper on your precision efforts. I was told by more than one clockmaker and personally found it to be true that as regards clocks " If it doesn't rattle it won't work "

Alex , FYI There are presently a number of Aciera F1 machines listed on ebay , e.g. item numbers 283511350510 and 153576605420 , at £2200 and £1800 respectively , with the F3 offering by Rotagrip ( item number 282519985212 ) at £5940 .

              Trevor,

Unless I am looking at the wrong advert, the £1,800 one is an F3, which is much bigger than the £2,200 F1 [which does look rather nice, I must say]
