I have some steel which I intend to use to make a pair of riser blocks, looking at the photos in this "link" would I be right in thinking the hex adjusting screws would be something like M16 with 10mm hole ? Looking at the photos seems a straight forward job but would appreciate any tips/advice on said job.

Hmm Harry

I can soon check that I thought so I whizzed out to the workshop – not so easy I fear! Firstly I very much doubt that the Myford version is metric – nothing else on the machine seems to be. Trying to measure the o.d. of the adjusting screws is also problematic but I did manage to squeeze a little pair of spring calipers into the gap and the o.d. looks like 9/16" to me .

Hi Harry,

The adjusting screws are threaded 5/16" BSF internally for the holding down studs ( I had to make longer ones to suit a stand that I built) so the outside may be BSF as well. The hex heads of the adjusting screws are about 0.6" AF so Norman's 9/16" dia. for the threaded portion is probably spot on.

Hello Harry

This was my solution using steel box section 100x50x5mm The raising screw is M12 through drilled for M8 clamp screws.

The locknut in the inside of the box prevents later movement. the whole lot is bolted through the bench to the steel angle iron frame below. Thus far about 18 years service from it.
