From recent posting some of you may have gathered that Ketan has been bombarding me with ~~holiday snaps~~ videos and photos from his business trip to China. He has just sent through a load taken while visiting a chuck factory and has said it is OK for me to share some here.

A few comments on the following video

The grinding machine does the face and then the chuck is turned through 90degrees to grind the side. We think the vacuum is used to test the tolerance of the grinding or size of ground part. After the final test any that fail get sent to Banggood

At the company where I served my time we used vacuum and pressure as a go, no go check on component size check which is what I think that test was.

Nice to see automation manufacturing in operation.

Doubt you would be able to film that process in the UK as there would probably be a rather large guard in the way (machine guard that is not security)

Even though there is an emoticon included, I expect that is true – but probably after several other suppliers have taken the better of the failed ones.

Fascinating, thanks for posting that. I am still trying to work out why, once the video had finished the suggested next one was a Dick Emery milkman sketch

Several references to 'vacuum' here. Surely its just an standard precision machining industry air-gauging system for measuring a fine (micron) toleranced feature ?

Supposed to depend on your past browsing/search history!

I got a 'Tank Talk' from Bovingdon which makes sense (I've watched several) and Bernard Manning (which seems highly random, although I watched a Bill Hicks clip a few days ago I think he was a rather different type of comedian…)

Hi everyone

Just returned. At home now, in bed with a bad case of the flu.

There were four of us being shown around by one of the factory owners, who also happens to be an engineer.

When he saw that I was taking interest in the making and checking process, he guided me to the machines to let me film. He did not have to explain. This is not permitted normally, so I was grateful.

Very interesting factory. Hoping to change over to supply from this factory later this year.

Hello David,

Thanks.

We have put a lot of stuff into clearance to make way for some new stuff which will start coming through slowly through out the year. Nothing special, but perhaps better grades, accuracies for certain products as we introduce a higher specification range. Well that is our hope.

picked it up in Shanghai last Wednesday. Most people have this flu or have gone through it in the past two to three weeks. About 20 percent of people on my flight were suffering from it.

Ketan, not only have you got the flu but you have Chinese Flu.. but dont worry I know of a cure. Its 50 percent made up of hot water, honey and lemon and the other 50 percent is neat malt whisky and you need to take it every hour. Actually as a cure for the flu you will find its useless, but by the time you are on the third dose you just wont give a damn anyway.
