      Hi all,

My dad and I have got a problem with our whistle valve on our 5” Edward Thomas loco. It constantly leaks, as soon as pressure starts building it leaks steam so you can’t get about 30PSI. We believe that inside the main valve, the spring and ball bearing are the wrong size causing steam to leak form it. If anyone knows what the size of the spring and ball bearing would be or indeed owns a 5” Edward Thomas loco and knows the exact sizes of both the spring and ball bearing inside the whistle valve are, that would be amazing. Thank you.

      Regards

      Edward

This doesn't answer your question but the original plans of the whistle valve didn't use a ball valve, but a conical valve, as shown in the in the plan exert below. (sorry for the small size)
