      Hello,

First off I am a total newbie to the forum and also a novice in the world of engineering as the last time i used a mill was back in school some 10 years ago.

I have recently bought a second hand Warco Major mill/drill MD30B. The problem is power trips out after 2 minutes of use and has to be reset. (reset meaning me opening the back and prodding a little) i have read through the trouble shooting in the manual that came with the mill but I'm not sure what's wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks.

What sort of mains switch does it have? There are some varieties with an overcurrent sensor based on an element that heats up. This might be doing its job or might be just out of setting.

Also what kind of motor is it. Some have a secondary winding that is necessary to start it but once going it is disconnected by a centrifugal switch. This might be stuck so it stays on causing overcurrent or over heating that then trips a themal switch in the body of the motor.

oh yeah, Hi, welcome etc laugh

There is a small red toggle in the electrical compartment that I think is the problem when it's fully wound in then there is no power to the switch. When there is power it's the same as before and trips after 2 minutes.

              the motor is a jui Chun 240v, 14amp , single phase , 4 pole. 1.5 kW. 50hz.

Sounds like some kind of current trip. The Grizzly G0705 seems to be the same but the manual doesn' t show this item.

I have a Warco MD30N which sort of fitted in between the economy mill/drill and the major.

After a couple of years this also started to switch off after a few minutes. Turned out that the on/off switches, which were on the front above the depth stop, were getting warm, arcing and causing the over current on the motor to trip.

I ended up fitting an external NVR switch and used the existing cabling to fit a reversing switch, no trouble since.
