      Hi,

I would be most grateful if someone could identify a source for a C/ hook ER20 collet nut spanner similar to these but ER20 size:

I have found one via ebay.com in the usa but the postage is prohibitive so need a UK/European or Chinese Free shipping source.

      Thanks,

      Steve

C spanners are often marked with the diameter of the curve, so measure your nut and search for C spanner of that size, they will often cover a small range of diameters. Hinged types are available with a wider range but I think these would be a nuisance on a regularly used tool.

I thought ER20 chucks were spanner flats not notched.

ER20 Mini nuts need the C type spanner, standard ones are hex

                        Hi,

                        Thanks all.

The application is for the spindle nut, and nut on a quick step mill. For the nut it requires the C type spanner or one of the spanners that engages multiple places,

                        Like these:

                        **LINK**

but on the spindle part I need the C type spanner as I can't get the other type in and away with the nut on. It would have been nice if it had spanner flats but there you go.

I'll see how I get on with it and in the longer run may get an ER20 ball bearing nut from Arc.

                        Thanks,

                        Steve

Steve it is interesting that you have used ArcEuro to show the type of spanner you want.

If you refer to their on line catalogue you will find that they do sell ER20 Collets etc. They are classified as Mini-collets and have their own spanner to use when tightening. I would suggest a call to Arc Euro will hopefully solve your problem

If not then try a Google search for a C Spanner, or if all else fails simply make one.

I got one from eBay which is adjustable – granted for a ER32 collet, but a smaller adjustable one should work. (that is there is a hinge of sorts allowing a range of diameters.

I also made my own which just requires a decent piece of bar and some basic skills.

AMF are one supplier of hook wrenches that go down to 12mm,. Half way down on this page there is a list of the sizes they do.

                              **LINK**

Other people probably have them as well but if there is one of the size you want then it is just a case of searching for that size and picking your preferred supplier.

You forgot the other requirement, the one which is my major constraint; time. I have limited workshop time and I prefer to spend it doing something interesting. Making a spanner which I can get delivered for less than £6 is not high up my projects list. My order is placed.
