Impressive, not seen anything in the UK that good in this century.   Have to hire a van and take a holiday in Rumania!  I expect customs would want loads of paperwork though.

Actually I plan a trip the other way around 🙂 I would like to see some museums in London and on the return flight I’ll fill a luggage to the 30kg limit with all kind of steel stock (A2, O2, Pb steel) and other goodies. You have a lot of nice stuff available and it cost too much to order them individually.

Today I found an interesting micrometer. You can plug a dial indicator on the left end. The left anvil is spring loaded. So it can be used in many ways. I noticed that many times I don’t care about absolute values, instead I want to know only if two diameters are precisely equal. With this thing I can compare parts over a wider range than a usual 25mm span micrometer.

I bought also one more 2μm dial indicator. I can’t help myself when I see one. The tip of this micrometer is transparent, like glass.

Today I visited the flea market in Catania, Sicily. I found two new candidates for a citric acid bath.

But except this nothing interesting. Only Parkside style tools. At 8:30 people started to leave, is very hot here!

I found an MT5 boring head for my mill on internet. This thing is huge. It was made in ’85 in a factory close to my city. I think I’m going to use it as a fly cutter. It needs 16mm diameter tools.

It is interesting that the seller lives 200m away from me. We went into a large basement with shelves on all walls full of all possible tools and measuring devices. It felt like a trip into Alibaba cave. And everything is for sale. A very exciting finding!

I found a few interesting things today. Those two carbide pieces on top I guess are for gigantic brazed tools. But are so large that you could put them directly in the tool post.

I went this morning to Mercat dels Encants. Or charms market. It should be the biggest bazaar in Barcelona. But I’m a bit disappointed with the content. It’s full of art objects, clothes and all sorts of non-technical stuff for tourists. I expected that in such a big city I would find more interesting things. I mean, in the flea market in my city in Romania you can find more tools and materials than in Barcelona. Imagine! Still, I found a guy who had a lot of new files.

I bought a few. They are all Bellota, a local brand I guess. The large triangular one is very coarse. I like it. It must be very productive at removing metal.

I also found two HSS cutting tool blanks. I wonder what is “spezial” about them. According to specs they have 16% cobalt. Much more than cobalt drilling bits.

There was also a tiny shop full of interesting stuff. But it is so small that only one person can enter. And quickly it forms a queue behind you. I like to be undisturbed while going through other people’s things.

And that was all. A little disappointing.
