        Hi All

I recently purchased a used Seig sx3 mill. i have since found that it is missing one of the gib adjuster screws from the column gib strip. (item 91 on diagram HERE)

I have spoken to ArcEuro and they are unable to obtain one so the question I have is ….. Is the upper adjuster screw (item 77) the same as the lower one?

        Any help appreciated

        Regards

        Paul

Sorry I do not know. I would imagine though that both screws would probably be the same to save costs. Can you get a bolt to screw into the thread? That will at least give you the size & pitch to enable one to be made.

          regards

I would venture to suggest that they are the same from just looking at the drawing. Can you not remove the top one and try it in the lower location? At least it will give you an indication.

I was concerned about removing the top one ( I envisaged the first reply on here would be 'Whatever you do DO NOT remove the top screw without the lower one in )wink

The tilted wedge seems to be different at the top end. The thread is M6 but there maybe a small bush or washer missing also.

Is removing the top screw etc a good idea or an i just making a whole lot more work?

If you want to remove the top gib screw it would be sensible to support the weight of the milling head on a block of wood or similar so nothing moves when you remove it.

Additionally use the head lock so the gib can't slide .

Hi Paul the top adjuster is diferent to the bottom adjuster. The top one probably is the same thread but it has a recess and is captive. If you remove the top adjuster with the gib lock on you could damage gib and or screw. The bottom screw is not captive and is just a plain large head screw with a screw driver slot to push the gib strip but the to screw is slightly diferent with a groove in the diamiter to pull the gib when turned. It should be a simple job to make a new bottom screw. Do they use the same screws on the other axis gibs if so just copy.

Thank you all for your help.

David, they don't use the same set up on the other gibs unfortunately.

If any one has (or could make ) a drawing of one I'd be most appreciative.

                      Regards

                      Paul
