Just found out that this thread had been locked probably due to the video mentioning a non contributory supplier:- sorry about that chaps I've deleted the video
Anyway her's an update on the project:-
What I was aiming for:- is the ability to flip the unit over and for it to be still on centre, but my first build failed with this aim I eventually traced the fault down to the bearing housing the holes for bolting the unit down were not symmetrical around the centre line of the shaft over 1mm out and they were not square to boot, its partly my fault as I made the assumption that they would be symmetrical.
The corrective work gave me the opportunity to dump the box section and replace it with a 2" square of ally, I've know got the spindle dead in the middle and I can know flip it round to any orientation and it will be plumb on centre, as a test I just cross drilled a 3mm hole through bit of steel, flipped the unit over and used the other end of the fixture to mill a 3mm wide key way see picture.
I'm happy with it know.
The unit is capable of
1 Cross Drilling
2 End milling a key way
3 Cutting a screw driver slot in a screw.
4 Regrinding a fixed centre
5 Sharpening centre punches
6 Truing up the jaws of a four jaw chuck
and no doubt many other things
Her's some pictures
