Hello all, any ideas how to remove the micrometer dial from the cross slide ball handle ie to remove the threaded rod inside the cross slide?

DW Is the lathe an ML7 or a super ML7 ?

Hello Roy, forgot to say its an ML7, the ball handle unscrews easily but not sure how to remove the threaded rod that moves the slide.

Hello DW, its called a feedscrew and once the slide has been wound back and removed from the saddle and the ball handle unscrewed, the feed dial is then unscrewed from the end of the feedscrew which then can be removed from the bearing. Hope this helps.

as far as I remember, the dial has flats on it and acts also as a nut to retain and adjust the clearance of the feedscrew. You will need to grip the feedscrew inside the mounting to undo the dial.

Many thanks to all for your help, wasnt sure whether the feedscrew was a press fit or not will now set about unscrewing it, rgds DW
