I have just bought this App [for the princely sum of £0.89]
      **LINK**

      https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/magnetometer-pro/id1457545269

Which gives a reading of around 3000 microtesla in close proximity to the magnet

… compared with a general background of about 150

No idea how accurate it might be, or even exactly where the magnetometer is located in an iPad Pro 9.7”

… but it seems like a pretty big number dont knowblush

      .

Edit: __ I have just found my bedtime reading :

      https://www.dlhonline.co.uk/media/wysiwyg/dlhonline/PDF/guide-to-permanent-liftin-magnets2.pdf

Very much the wrong scale … but there may be something useful there

This App looks more generally useful/interesting : **LINK**

        … and it’s free

That looks right interesting. I shall try that as soon as I find out where the iPad went.

          Thanks, Michael!

A quick check with my trusty Silva Compass [not a patch on Nick’s but it does fit nicely in the camera-bag] reveals that the bottom of the magnet, and thereby the whole of the pot, is a North pole.

            .

dont know … I am now wondering what effect that single line of contact has on the magnetic performance

… would it be even more effective if the magnet was truly centred in the pot ?

The practicality of doing this is questionable, but I would welcome opinions.

              .

That tallies with what I found on my simple countersunk one.
The side with the countersink was south
