Chester H80 Blade Snap

I’ve just snapped the blade in my HY80 Chester band saw. I don’t suppose anybody know the correct size blade to buy from http://www.tuffsaws.co.uk/ ?

Chester list the blade size as 1300 x 0.63 x 12.5mm. The closest match on Blade width seems to be 12mm – is this OK ?

The blade has had comparatively little use and seems to have snapped at the weld. Does anyone have any tips on what I can do to get a better life out of the next one ?

the original blade fitted on my H80 also snapped at the weld but I was attempting (very unsuccessfully) to cut a 15mm thick slab of 316 SS at low speed but no coolant – I had ordered a spare bimetal blade from Chesters and that has worked well since tho I have resisted cutting any more SS – the choice of bimetal was following advice on some USA based forum – later ordered an additional 2 bimetal spares one of each size stocked

I bought their H128 and the first blade in that lasted no time at all either (at the weld) but the extra spare I'd got has gone on quite well.

If tuffsaws dont know the length then simply measure your old one..then stick a label on the machine with the correct size for future ref

Most of my blades seem to break at the weld .Ian at tuffsaws will reweld them if they fail but i've never taken him up on his offer as I'm sure I;ve had a good life out of the blades before it fails

I got some bimetallic blades from *LINK*

I got some for my 6×4 bandsaw (64.5"x1/2"x14tpi) and some for a friend's HY80 (51"x1/2"x14tpi). The price was very reasonable and the blades are excellent quality. I'm just a satisfied customer.

It's normal here for the blade to be rewelded if it breaks at the weld. It pays to check that there are no cracks starting from the root of the teeth any where around the blade(save you taking it in and getting it rejected). Used to get my blades done here in Christchurch, but the welder died(machine), so all blades go to Auckland.

Hi David,

I bought a 1/2" M42 blade replacement for my Warco CY90 ( I think this is basically the same model) from Tuffsaws in February and have received fantastic service from Ian at Tuffsaws; receiving not one but two replacement blades since then!

It seems that their M42 blade stock is perhaps too thick and inflexible for this saw with its tight bends and continuous flexing of the blades back and forth to achieve the necessary clearance. I have broken two M42 blades now at the weld and am now trying one of the Tuffsaw's supertuff carbon steel blades which is thinner and hence more flexible.

Ian tells me that he is trying to obtain some thinner M42 blade stock which he hopes will work better for these small saws. In the meantime it may be best to ask Ian's advice which blade he recommends for this saw rather than blindly buying an M42 blade for it like I did.

The blade is 1300 mm long and 1/2" wide.
