Right, so i emailed about half a dozen bearing factors this morning in a hunt for these Nachi bearings for the Bridgeport mill quill. Only three came back to me, one said they will try to find them for me in the future.

Another local to me here in Dublin said they could get them in 2-3 days (i always take that with a pinch of salt), and quoted me a price of 140 euros+VAT, which i though reasonable.

But Kelly at Bearing Boys in Norfolk, came back to me with a quote of £89.91 for the pair plus £17.98 VAT, for a total of £107.89, plus the postage which i have yet to ask for, but i guesstimate at a tenner.

So very reasonable compared to the £300-£400 i assumed i had to pay to get this head back up to spec and in good order.

Pays to shop around, and thanks to all who helped.

Thanks Brian. I got another quote today from simplybearings in Lancashire. They gave me a price of £130 + Vat, for a total of £157. These bearings though are the FAG brand which may or may not be better than the Nachi's. I don't know, i have some experience with FAG as we used to use them in work. They were good quality, but if they are better than Nachi is unknown.

There is no real technical difference between the two brands when it comes to this type of Super Precision Match Pairs.

The world top brand in terms of marketing is RHP-NSK, and even it is technically similar to NACHI and FAG.

Technically superior is FAFNIR, but its benefits would be lost on your Bridgeport the minute you breath on it and/or try to install it without specialist knowledge and equipment.

To be honest, both the NACHI and FAG offering are already very high spec. for your machine… provided you are able to install them with care. The price given to you by Bearing Boys for a pair is very keen.

Originally, we had our email address on our site. Over the years as our site grew, automated bots searched it for contact email address, which in turn was being used to send spam traffic. So we had to remove the email address from the site.

This by itself was not enough, and such bots were still finding a way to use the contact area to get messages through, some of which had attachments which raised further security issues, which could effect our customers as well as us. To lower the risk, we had to introduce the much loved 'I am not a robot' box. I admit that it is not the best solution, but it does serve a purpose. If we find a better solution which can be implemented by our shop provider, we will use it.

Until then, we can only apologise for the inconvenience.
