Rapid Direct:

Its fancy web-site opened by its flashing ad on here, claims it to be a high-volume parts contract manufacturer in China.

Not one really relevant to a model-engineering forum, surely?

Why not?

I know several model engineers who have drawn up parts and used companies to print the parts in plastics/metal or having them CNC machined. They say the will do 1 off prototypes as well as larger volume production.

Seem to recall Rapid or someone similar running adverts in the paper mags a month or two back

17D also run adverts in the Mag and will do one off or small multiples on their CNCmachines for those that want them as well as their stock items

It seemed odd because its sprawling web-site suggested it caters for large-scale commercial manufacturers on regular accounts. Not private individuals many thousands of miles away, wanting just one or two parts.

Yes, there are smaller-scale commercial companies happy to make parts for "us", such as laser-cutting loco frames to drawings or files we supply, but Rapid Direct did not look like one.

Also I have received unsolicited e-posts from what seem genuine companies, but in China, offering services or products as if I am a commercial importer or user of them. I thought Rapid Direct was acting similarly:- advertising as widely and speculatively as possible because it can rather than selectively..
