In 1966 I had a Fiat 500 as my first car (as it ended up my last), many miles (pre decimal years), great fun, maybe not too practical as most of my driving was out of town, and on some fairly rough roads. It ended up getting blown off the road in a strong wind.

Having built a twin-engine Citroen 2CV I can say that you get nearly 30 HP with both engines running, quite enough I think. I dismantled this before going much further because of all the hassle with registration and insurance Anyone need a reversed 2CV gearbox? Started to build a single engine 4×4 ,with a transfer gear and modded gearbox in rear. This was the reason for me buying a lathe in the first place. Things happened and this never got finished.

Only Citroen could fit a car with two engines and still only get 24hp. Mind you expect any more would have pretzeled it.

The Twini Mini was a bit better than that… **LINK**

at 178 HP although I'm not sure it was quite as tame as the Safari.

Look at all the leverage on those 2 front tires! Might tend to sink quickly also.

“This thread seems to have drifted quite a way from the original posting.” that’s because Neil never got his “No – Go – Oh Go On” gauge !

But I seem to recall that there should be a white rabbit in there somewhere providing additional supercharging

In the days after WW2 a number of Field Marshal, and Lanz Bulldog tractors were coup;ed in tandem as new tractors were unavailable in NZ, and more horse power was required.

Not needed in Britain until the 1960s, apart from the odd installation. Our 50HP tractor was sufficient for most draft use and smaller units, with 3 point linkage and hydraulics, became commonplace.. Ernest Doe changed all that until the Fordson (or was it Ford again by then?) Super Sixes and later 4 wheel drive tractors were trundled out by the manufacturers.
