Leaf spring suspension

I notice that the 5" Metro has mock leaf spring suspension. Would it be too finer detail to put on a 3 1/2 " loco.

No you will probably have to make every other leaf in some thing softer like Tufnol phosphor bronze or beryllium copper this will keep the strength down to a useable level and keep the number of leafs scale. You are being affected by the cube rule. Several of my wagons have two steel leafs and five Tufnol. One of the benefits of leaf springs is the friction between the leafs acts as a mild shock absorber so not such a bouncy ride as coils!

If they’re mock springs surely it’s just down to how fancy/intricate a detail job you can or just feel like doing?

On a veteran car model I used steel as the main leaf and black plastic gutter to make the other leaves. The plastic can easily be shaped using a hot air gun and is surprisingly springy. It gave the right result for me. Colin
