Hello , I took a punt on a set of external jaws which looked like they might fit my original 80mm chuck from Banggood – they didn't…

I would rather stick to the 80 for now until i really find the need to go to 100.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the correct external jaws for the Original chuck?

      Best Chris

          Hi Chris

If you are talking about your 3-jaw, IIRC it was made by TOS (in Poland, not China) – if it has a single oil-nipple on the front face.. Can you post a picture?

There's a set of soft jaws here – that could be machined – but message this seller first to check that these will fit your chuck – I'm sure he will know, he probably has a TOS body there to check with… He's likely to be your best bet to find a "proper" set of replacements. I have dealt with him before, he is a genuine business based in the Southwest..

If it is a TOS then also worth checking sizes with Rotagrip as they list replacements for 80mm TOS

external jaws.jpgHi D, hope the pics upload, yes it has the oil nipple. I have seen that seller selling MD65 items, so will send him a message, I am really after the hard external jaws so well worth enquiring, thanks for reco on them being ok to deal with.

Hi Jason, appreciate your link also, I am going to give them a call, if they are right and in stock it's probably the safest way to go although a bit expensive – not as expensive as something that does not work at all tho…

Pic of the extenals I got from China in the fore which are very wrong for my chuck, if anyone wants them let me know and you can have them for nowt wink

Having seen the price of a new set of hard jaws from Rotagrip via Jason's link, I didn't think the price was too bad.. probably only £16-£20 more than a used set..

True true.. my perspective being blurred by the outright cost of the lathe and most accessories at 1/5 of the price of a set of jaws.. Think I need to appreciate the great bargain I got and spend on what I need that works well.

Message back from heritage lathes on ebay, he does not have any (seem like helpful people tho) and recommended Rotagrip also, call into them next.

                  Thanks for the advice.

The lathes gent on ebay is pretty positive it is a Bison/Toolmex chuck with the oil nipple and stamped serial, which in his opinion are better chucks than TOS (and more expensive) I have found a new set for £48 so happy with that.

                    Thanks

                    Chris

Hello Phil, that is very kind of you, it would be useful, I am not sure but the Hobbymat may have come with TOS or Bison chucks?

Hello D, that article does state TOS, so maybe my machine was bought a replacement/upgrade, or maybe it had the Bison from new.. The external jaws for the Bison arrive today from Gloster Tooling, I've checked all the dims the have provided and are spot on so pretty confident its the right jaws for the chuck, and then definitely a Bison Toolmex chuck.

                            Cheers all
