Just had an e-mail notification at work for another ex-college lathes auction

5 off Warco gear head lathes located in Darwin, Lancs. Might be of interest to someone and, as the machines are said to be already removed from site to the the Darwin address (machine tool dealer ?), this auction might run to the end !

I bet the bottom one fetches the most , being single phase.

          Nice machines.

          Steve.

the last one seems to to have a ‘foreign’ tailstock – wonder what damage required the change ?
A couple of the others look as though they had very little use – by the time the premiums + Vat are added I suspect a buyer will pay getting close to as new – are there any accessories thrown in.

Don't know about the final price , but they are nearly 4 grand new.

There is shown with each a box of steddies.

              Steve.

When I bought my GH 1322 back in January they were £3300 for the three phase model because they had 20+ of them in stock – the date plate on mine says 2018!

I would rather take a chance on being able to split the star on the 3 phase machines rather than buy one with no DRO, so no, I think you would likely lose your bet.

I expect they put it last because it has no DRO.

In order to get a clearer idea of the savings to be made on secondhand machinery over new, I would need to factor in the cost to me of transporting it, as well as maybe the cost of going to see it before purchase on a separate trip [there's clearly much less of a need to view new machinery before purchase than there is to view secondhand].

What would the approximate going rate be to get a commercial machinery mover say fifty miles out from their base to the GH1322's location, another fifty miles to me with the machine, and then however many more miles they have to do to get back to base [if that's where they want to go]?

The Movers quoted £1000 to move my little mill, so one of these would be plenty.

Yes i agree it's not the best one. I was going by the man in the street attitude, Not much knowledge of 3 phase.

I had planned to put a DRO on mine with the change from the discount after buying the inverter but to be honest the cross slide is so accurate I haven't bothered, the top slide is ok too, I wouldn't bother with one on the carriage anyway. DRO's are indispensable on a mill but less so on a lathe imho.

Hi, well if I were to bid, I would plum for the last one. However I'm not planning on bidding and it's to far for me to fetch it back and it is just overweight for my trailer/car GVW, and I don't have the funds available for a courier, I haven't the space for it at the present time anyway.

                            Regards Nick.

A little over 2 days to go and only bids on two of the machines. Either the bidders are ‘keeping their powder dry’ or few are interested? We shall see in a couple of days.! But, presently, some potential bargains on offer. At those prices, Warco might even think it a money spinner to purchase and sell off as ‘good second hand machines’?

Not long to go for a result. Can anyone suggest why lot No2 is collecting far more attention (as in bids) than the others?

I’m not bidding, so only interested. VAT and buyer’s commission to add before delivery cost – and I wonder if the 3 phase motors are easily converted to 230V.

Looking at the rating plate on the motors, it looks like they are 440 only. Which is 440v each winding. To run them you would need a VFD with 400+ per phase output. Never priced one so not sure if they are more expensive.

The buyers fee & vat adds to 35% on top of winning price.

They all went for between £2050 and £2350 which is £2830 to £3240 after Buyer's Premium and VAT.
