I have a very elderly "Primus" gas torch with three burners. The smallest used to produce a very neat flame, very controllable and a pleasure to use. Over the years it has become progressively blocked until it no longer functions. The inlet side is covered with a fine mesh, and the flame side has a brass disc with a ring of small holes. The is no apparent way to dismantle it. Is there anything that I could soak it in that might unblock it please?

You could try Citric Acid solution, worked for me on one burner.

            Carburettor cleaner might work.

Or an ultrasonic cleaner will almost certainly shake the soot out.

I took mine to a gas engineer, he had a suitable size pricker for the hole in my torch. I now use a fine brass wire from a small(toothbrush size)wire brush. With your one you might not be able to do that.

I use one strand of multi strand 3 amp copper wire in the single jet just below the flame. It needs magnification and a steady hand but it does work.

Thanks gents, I'll try citric acid, I can't see the jet to clean it.

… I presume it's the 'Needle Flame' burner.

Get a set of these. Available from gas welding suppliers for cleaning oxy torch nozzles or from car accessory stores for cleaning carburetor jets. (also available on e-b**)   The ends of the wires are made like tiny files.

I also have the kit Paul has. The problem with this kit is that it merely pushes the muck back in to block up again. The jets, if removable need removing and blown through on an air compressor.

                          Cheers,

                          Julian

Maurice's burner is, I presume similar to 8842 as shown on this page

I have two variants … One screws onto a 'neck tube' and the other is 'integrated'

So far as I'm aware, neither can be cleaned with the devices mentioned.
