Will some one inform me where I can buy, or better still, build an angle grinder cut off stand. I have never seen one close to, just a picture. John

They quite often come up in Aldi/Lidl on their weekly specials. I do have one I was given, never used it and I'm not entirely sure where it is. Machine Mart sell them if there is one near you. LINK which looks better than the cheapo one I used to have. Bear in mind, this is a roughing out tool, not a precision one

Cast base so a bit sturdier than the presssed seel ones like this /www.machinemart.co.uk/p/einhell-ts-230-angle-grinder-stand which costs more. I've not used either model.

I don’t know how it compares with a cut off saw, but mine was eight quid from Aldi and is very easy to store in my ‘micro workshop’ as it takes up very little space……..I use 1mm discs for stainless and the cut finish, even on harder steels is excellent.

Machine Mart used to do a smaller version of the Einheil angle grinder stand for 115mm angle grinders. I bought one and it is useful for the odd job with harder materials , but has now been superceeded by an ALDI bandsaw, at least for mild steel and non-ferrous.

Stands identical to mine are listed on eBay under the Wolfcraft label – a firm with a good reputation.

Good for square cutting smaller thicknesses of bar and pipe into fixed lengths, but there's not much else they can be used for

Other side of the pond Diablo offers a cermet (proprietary ceramic carbide, whatever that is) Steel Demon saw blade for metal – including steel & stainless steel – up to 1/4 inch thick. This circular saw blade of various diameters can be used in standard (wood cutting) circular saws or miter saws. About $30 US. This blade, surprisingly, runs at wood cutting speeds (c. 5500 rpm), not the slower (c. 3000 rpm) speed normally associated with metal-cutting carbide-toothed saws. Lot fewer sparks than abrasive wheels.

Where in the country are you John ?

I have a Lidl one, used once (and it worked OK when I used it) & it has just sat in it's box since. Yours FOC if we can work out a way to get it to you – it is a fairly heavy lump IIRC. so postage probably more than it is worth.

I live in West Yorks (HD2) & work in North Yorks (YO26) if that helps. I could dig it out put up pics if required.

I have the Wolfcraft jig/stand for 115/125mm grinders. It cost me £18.25 from Amazon.

After removing the supplied vice, which simply causes anything but very small material being held in it to foul on the nose of the angle grinder as it is brought down, and installing my own vice off to one side of the base, I'm pleased to say it cuts small material very efficiently indeed.

Obviously it is limited in its capacity [even when my grinder is the 125mm type], but after careful set-up it cuts far more squarely [almost perfectly squarely in fact] than both the Aldi bandsaw I owned briefly and the £500 Femi bandsaw I subsequently bought, which arrived in a dreadful state and also had to be returned. The key to obtaining square cuts is the angle grinder jig's adjustability – adjustability that neither of the saws, regrettably, had.

I got a used one from an club member for £5 it certainly has been a god send cutting hardened bits off in its dodgy vice.

Removed vice and made a guide to cut a long length of 16swg stainless with care.

If ur cutting just normal stuff have heard good results from Lidil Aldi mini band saw…..and others….

accurate and think they will cut upto 50mm solid…..u need to check that…..my stuff is all industrial….

the last time I think they were around 70 -80 squids……

angle grinder's create a lot of mess n sparks……

pretty much anything I cut with an angle grinder is done outside of the shop…..

I would never buy anything that was not made by the grinder manufacturer as I worry about them getting loose and vibs…..

seen to many accidents…..

Im 72 and still have all my digits and plan on keeping that way….hahaha…

This is an Aldi cut off stand, fitted with a 115mm angle grinder. I used it a lot until I bought a "Fermi" band saw. Still used for cutting HSS blanks. It has a crappy vice arrangement, but at least has a cast iron baseplate, rather than the steel pressing that a similar machine sold by Machine Mart had.
