If we can get say 10 people interested, I would be willing to approach GMES about using the clubhouse for a Saturday or Sunday. And there is a possible speaker, who lives not far from there….

      I'm in, that leaves 6.

I think starting yet another group or club is not a good idea. There is probably a larger density of clubs already on the west of London than anywhere else in the world. (I think I pass about 7 on my way to work) This attitude of splitting into single subject groups is overall harmful to the hobby as it puts up costs and makes cross fertilisation of ideas and skills difficult.
Why not go to your nearest club's committee and explain your views. It will probably turn out that quite a lot of people are intereseted , just not obsessed, will be supportive if given the right opportunity. It would be less work to set up a special interest subsection of an existing club than start a new complete club but don't expect them to drop all their personal activities and do the work for you.

Edit : looks like you are already doing that.

          Bazyle,

If you know of an existing ME club that has a good model engine group then please tell us. I know for a fact that there is not enough interested members in GMES to form one.

Stratfield Saye village hall is about 30 miles from me, Guildford Club House: 50. The former I'd love to do, the latter is too far. My Maserati Ghibli will only do 15m.p.g. I wouldn't have much to contribute but I find the company of model engineers stimulating. Can you think again please?

Please don't believe everything you read!

The traction engine meeting is at Stratfield Saye village hall because that is where the organiser Clive lives. but renting a village hall is not cheap I think we get about 50 members and we pay £3 each for the day.

A ME club is likely to allow us to use their club house with a small donation towards the heating costs… I am currently only a member of Guildford, so that is all I could offer. I am only too happy for someone else to organise a venue: Just be warned Model engineers and their money are not easily parted….

Just to let those of you who expressed an interest in model stationary engine group know: MEM has arranged to have a display of our engines at the Guildford Rally this weekend. Please come and have a chat, we all talk fluent model stationary engines in all their shapes and forms.

I will be the one playing with my Cowells, hopefully weighed down with more casting sets and tools for the workshop.wink 2

To show any of my engines, I join up with the "Christchurch Historic Machinery Club", these guys have full size hit and miss engines, and last year a full size Robinson hot air motor. There are lawn mowers, and tractors, and my little hot air engine. My wee motor is on the table just to the right of the Robinson flywheel, above the gas bottle. Ian S Cdsc00729 (640x480).jpg
