The three wire method gives very accurate figures for the truesize of screw threads by measuring from the flanks of the V rather than from the crest of the threads. As the crest are normally truncated, measuring across them gives a false reading. The problem with the three-wire approach is the complex trigniometry involved! This utility saves you all the headaches, allowing you to input just a few parameters and giving a direct readout.

This utility was written in Visual Basic 5 by Pete Worden.
The utility works with windows operating systems up to W7, though users of later versions may be told a .dll file used by Visual Basic 5 is missing. If you get the error that file Msvbm50.dll is missing, you can download an installer for it from Microsoft here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/180071
Users of Windows 8 may find that with the dll installed the program opens but does not run correctly. We hope to resolve this in the future.

Hi,
I'm the editor of Model Engineer & Workshop magazine and before that the editor of MEW from 2014, also one of the website admins.
I'm a model engineer, and in the past I have written for ME and MEW, but I won't claim any great stock of expertise, just plenty of enthusiasm. Before becoming editor, I used to post on this forum as Stub Mandrel (and may occasionally still do so).
If you would like to find out more about me, my personal website is <a href="http://www.stubmandrel.co.uk/">www.stubmandrel.co.uk/</a> and I have an author page on Amazon at <a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/Neil-M-Wyatt/e/B01FK687I0/ref=ntt_dp_epwbk_0">amazon.co.uk/Neil-M-Wyatt/</a>
Feel free to send me a 'pm' (message member) but these are a bit slow and clumsy, so if you would like to get in touch with me by email use <a href="mailto:

I'm always glad to hear your views on the magazine, and particularly keen to encourage new contributors to 'have a go', so let me know if you have any ideas for articles.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Neil
