I was looking at this old corkscrew on ebay…described as having a "rollover collar" . Now , that must be rotated to lock the handle onto the threaded bit, to screw it into the bottle cork.. How does that work then ?? s-l1600 (2).jpg

Screw the handle to the very top of the thread. Roll the collar, which prevents the handle screwing back down the thread. Wind corkscrew part into cork. Roll back collar from lock position and screw handle down thread to withdraw cork.

          Drink the wine or whatever.

Bought one similar to this, in Switzerland, back in the 70s. It still works well!

Never managed to find another in U K.

I have a cheap chrome-plated version which was bought in the UK only a few years ago, but I can't remember where.. Hacksaw, if anyone embarrasses you with unwanted gifts of wine, just forward it on to Mike, c/o………….

I wonder who invented the corkscrew thread and if there is a standard for it?
