I was looking at this old corkscrew on ebay…described as having a "rollover collar" . Now , that must be rotated to lock the handle onto the threaded bit, to screw it into the bottle cork.. How does that work then ??
Screw the handle to the very top of the thread. Roll the collar, which prevents the handle screwing back down the thread. Wind corkscrew part into cork. Roll back collar from lock position and screw handle down thread to withdraw cork.
I have a cheap chrome-plated version which was bought in the UK only a few years ago, but I can't remember where.. Hacksaw, if anyone embarrasses you with unwanted gifts of wine, just forward it on to Mike, c/o………….
