Hi everyone

Will be manning the Club stand demonstrating basic turning look for the old git going or as wife says bald with grey beard. If a young person is doing this it is one of my grandsons

but I will be lurking.

Beating the drum Bristol (BSMEE) Exhibition.

Come along 3 LARGE halls every hobby catered for, masses of traders outside activities FREE parking including for caravans.

This show is run by model engineers for model engineers and not for the bean counters pockets. so there is a friendly, happy atmosphere , plenty of aisle space for disabled people.

Well I could go on.

Come and meet Springbok in the flesh aca Bob Thomson.

Would that be the exhibition starting on Friday 10am - 6pm, going on to Saturday 10am to 5pm, and even Sunday 10am - 4pm?

Could I find it by putting BS35 3JG in my satnav fo should I just go to either junction 14 or 16 of the M5 as it is only 5 miles from either?

Perhaps I should just go to

for more details.

Surely the title is wrong. It's THIS week. Starting tomorrow in fact starting 17th Aug at 10 am.

I wonder if my sat nav like google maps thinks the postcode is a mile south not at the Leisure Centre. Perhaps that is a ploy to stop wives diverting to the Tesco just north of the true target.

Don't panic - you still have time to get there on Sunday.

A fantastic exhibition in 3 large halls and amazing that it is a club putting it on. Lots of trade stands so plenty of opportunity to stock up on bits (except a 3/8 allen key on my list), lost count of the number of ME and boating and other club stands, and of course a range of models including boats and clocks as well as the engineering ones for the purists. Comes close to the size of the early days at Pickets Lock for those that remember it before the site being flattened for the sporty stuff.

I had a pleasant 5 hours there and found 2 of my own club members on stands - Brian on the Southern Fed and Malcolm nearby playing with IC engines. Plenty of time to chat with people on club stands making me envious of the facilities at Shepton Mallet, finding that I go past Huntspil frequently on the M5 without knowing it existed, and will part with £15 to join the 2.5 inch society.

Then I found a friendly bearded gentleman demonstrating introductory lathe work on the host club stand and can put a face to a familiar name on this forum. Hi Springbok. His namesake loco is coming on well.

Don't follow your satnav into Thornbury though as mine gave up miles off course. Find the southern end of the B4061 and it will be easier. A few signs on the A38 would help newcomers guys but I'll be ok next year.

Photos to come but I'm truely awful with a camera so best go yourself.

This was my second visit to what must be the friendliest exhibition around, I shall certainly be going next year as well despite the four hour round trip.

Without wishing to sound sychophantic nor deferential it was a great pleasure and an honour to meet Gray Meek, we even discovered that our wives share a common interest, I slipped up though, I should have taken my copy of his book for inscribing.

I was looking forward very much to see progress on Brian Perkins' Mercedes W165 but unfortunately he has had a problem with his arm for far too long.

Congratulations and thanks to The Bristol club.

Met up with the bearded gentleman, warm welcome, only sorry it was on the Friday, would have met up with the others Graham included on the Saturday. I always go on the Friday however, creature of habit. Good show and company as usual.

CuP Alloys are again at Thornbury 17th-19th August 2018 with the usual full selection of brazing and soldering materials and equipment. All at show discounted prices. We are also delighted to announce that once again we have been invited to speak on the technical aspects of brazing and soldering. Please see posters in the halls or ask on the stand for times.
