Gentlemen,

This is my first posting on this Forum and I'm wondering if anybody knows a supplier of good make 3/4hp three phase motors for my lathe.
I have recently acquired a Seimens 420 inverter and now I'm looking for a four pole motor to go with it to convert my lathe.

Thanks,

Martin Perman

Try " Inverter Supermarket " they have all the top makes, you will certainly get one to go with your Seimens 420.
Donald.

Hello Martin,

If you look at the 'unmitigated woe' thread you will see some advice I've been given on this topic.

As a stop gap I'm part way through making a countershaft so I can use a Hoover 0.5HP single phase motor. A second pulley this evening and I'm motoring.

How do you intend to connect the new motor, as I doubt a 3-phase one will fit?

Please report back on what yiou do and how you get one.

You might do well to check out Inverter Drive Supermarket as suggested.

I recently purchased a 3/4 H.P. Marelli three phase motor from them, it was frame size 71 with a 15mm dia. shaft. You should be able to get full dimensions from the Marelli website.

I was surprised how very much smaller it was than the old Brook Crompton single phase 3/4 H.P. motor.

Don't forget that Inverter Supermarket also sell made up screened cables for connecting the motor to the inverter. It all went like a dream.

Neil,

I dont envisage any problems fitting a three phase motor, at the moment , the inverter is going into its own box as I want to fit a potentiometer to control the speeds plus an EM Stop. The unit is fan cooled so the box will also have filter inlet and outlet ports to stop muck getting in, a bit OTT you may think but I work with these units in my job and they will run for ever if you look after them.

The reason for change is the flexibility I will get, thread cutting wont be so frightning because of the fast lowest speed I currently have, DC Braking etc.
As it comes together I will keep you in the loop.

Thanks Martin,

Funnily enough low speed has never been a problem, for me, my lathe went down to 16 rpm. but it's a1999 Clarke one - there are different controller boards and they can be set up differently.

CL300M, made by SEIG the same as the ARC ones, I know because the mains filter in it says 'SEIG' on it

I have everything working now, just gutting the old controller board to make up a start/stop NVR box.

HI
I have just fitted a IMO Inverter and 3 phase motor to my Warco WMT300. It was a WMT300/2 until I bought a "proper" mill earlier this year. Very pleased with the results.
