4 forum posts | Thanks very much I currently have very little of my own equipment. I can access a lathe but on a somewhat ad hoc basis. David, I have a couple of restoration projects, a model aircraft engine of my son’s and a toy sewing machine. I have a particular fascination with automata. |

......... Bill, I imagine that Buxton is a very pleasant spot to retire, a little bit more peaceful than S10, which is looking up a bit these days, we have a couple more cafes now on Crookes main street and a few less empty shop fronts! ...................... I was just opposite The Princess Royal so quite pleasant there; I'm due back soon for a post lockdown haircut from Denise. |

4 forum posts | Hi Bill I'm just down the hill from the Princess Royal myself! Great that you still pop over to Denise's! I'll have a word with McAnearney machine, I drove past them recently and just assumed they dealt with much heavier duty stuff than I could accommodate in the corner of my cellar! Thanks for the tip! Dom |

4 forum posts | As an update, I have found a minor tr1 lathe/mill that wasn't too pricey. I understand that it isn't the most rigid lathe but I hear that it is quite accurate. It looks a bit like an emco compact that I saw (but a lot cheaper). I did consider a unimat 3 but they are quite pricey and I realised that being able to cut threads that are compatible with the filter ring on lenses is going to be very useful. I have it here and I will take a bit of time to look at everything that comes with it, try a tentative first attempt and put some questions on a new thread.
