I feel sorry for our Editor, having apologized in Smoke Rings for the poor reproduction of drawings for Wahya, on the page opposite, p793 and again on p821 the ongoing problems appear yet again.

Of course, in the old days the proof copy was the first printed version, before production began. Now if it looks OK on the screen it must be OK to go.

This OK to go situation often shows in some publications as a poor choice of colour, what looks OK on the screen, when printed has such poor contrast as to be unreadable. Eg. black print on dark blue etc.

Good luck finding a suitable solution quickly.

After the Wahya issue I did mention to Diane that if using the authors own drawings that it may be worth getting them to use heavier lines which is only a click or two of the mouse.

maybe Diane could find out what line thicknesses were used and the original size of the drawings and compare those to drawings that come out OK like mine.

Jason, agree with your comment. CAD drawings can look like 6H pencil when we really need 6B.

It does not explain why the mechanical bird drawing, p793 is just as bad.

Possibly editors working from home don't have access to the usual laser-printed proof copies of pages before sending them to press?

Our editors work from home anyway.

Looking at the digital version the engine cross section is OK but the pencil sketch quite poor being little more than a fag packet sketch to start with so can't just be the different formats that the files get shared about using otherwise the sketch would be OK too.
