Just been watching some bbc programmes from the 1950s that have appeared on bbc iPlayer

one series called “eye to eye “ has a comparison between London and New York in 1957 narrated and music by Larry Adler

i did a double take as the riff that LA was playing was smoke on the water surely written in the 70s though Richie Blackmore said it was from an inversion of Beethoven’s 5th

anyway good viewing in these lockdown times

Just followed your hints and found the broadcast. There's certainly similarities with the riff! ,I'm not sure that there's any criticism of Richie needed, the world was a far less litiginous/autoproctological place then.

The fire and smoke were definitely an original piece of work.

The riff in question marked the beginning, middle and end of my

musical aspirations to rise to fame as a rock idol.

The only thing I ever mastered on the guitar laugh
