Does anyone know how 4 jaw independent chuck jaws were originally ground. I can't believe they were ground in the chuck body. There must be a reference surface to orient them in the grinding jig. I'm thinking the rebate as the reference myself. Just curiosity really.

Nobody has mentioned it yet, but Rotagrip are experts in all things to do with chucks, helpful supplier.
