Hi All,

This caused a bit of a stir when it arrived on our drive at the weekend!

An old pal from NZ keeps it over here to use when he is in the UK.

Seriously loud, my pal and his wife wear noise cancelling headphones with intercom when using it!

Can anyone guess exactly what it is?

Cheers, Martin

Errr, it's a car. smile

With what looks like a straight six engine and nitrous oxide injection?

I'm green with envy! I ran an MGC GT from '82 to '86 but it wasn't quite like that one. Mine had a pair of 1.3/4 SU's not triple Weber DCOEs. Standard power was 145 BHP but I imagine this one produces a lot more.

MG made approximately 9000 of them between '67 and '69, I believe that half went to the USA. It was an attempt to follow the discontinued Austin-Healey 3000 but didn't quite manage to do so. One complaint was that the car was very front heavy.

Cheers

Dave

Replica of a Sebring race car. Looks like the present owner has changed a few bits, can't see the roll cage or bucket seats (that's if it is the same car as I'm remembering from some while back)

They did a 2.6 litre 6-cylinder Marina in Australia ... that must have been a terrifying thing to drive, although it had uprated running gear. Apparently first gear was blanked off because the engine has so much torque...

Looks like roll bars adjacent to the A and B pillars?

Gray,

You are spot on, its one of two built by LOLA as Sebring homage cars, was going to be 6 but the other 4 never happened. Roll cage and bucket seats are there. Engine is 255bhp, all body parts except the tub are either glass or alloy, only the windshield is glass, all other is perspex. The exhaust sysyem is a $4000 work of art! Has overdrive also.

The owner is about to order an MGBGT from Frontline MG, worth checking that out! 2 year wait though.

The very distinctive straight 6 sound has to be heard to be believed!

Cheers, Martin

Well done Brian G. No need to guess, when simply looking at his album pics rather gives it away. Just a little research required.smiley

Lola, now there's a name from the past. Just up the road from Pi Research, although we didn't have a lot to do with them. A lot of the Indy car work we did was with Penske, who were unusual in designing and building their own chassis.

Andrew,

Many years ago I had a long drive of a LOLA T70 MkIIIB, lots of fun, doubt that I could even get in it today!

Now this was seriously noisy:

fraser nash

1934 Fraser Nash fitted with a tuned 1937 BMW straight six engine. The slight bulge that can be seen in the exhaust pipe is a token silencer - no baffles!

My next door neighbour has a Harley Davidson with a standard factory exhaust that wakes up the street when he starts it. They must be special, every other manufacturer has to fit silencers to their bikes.

Ex colleague of mine was a Harley nut, he had 'MOT exhausts' which only saw the light of day once a year.

No one would follow my Trident with its Norman Hyde 3-1 exhaust, strobing the Boyer ignition at 5000rpm when it was fully advanced tended to annoy some neighbours and bring a cherry glow to the exhaust header pipes. An hours riding like a hooligan made your ears ring. Also being a Motörhead and Ted Nugent fan I am amazed I can still hear at all.
