does anyone know where to obtain tallow sticks. we used them when i worked for the MOD for tapping blind holes. the tallow acted as a lubricant and also as the tap went down the tallow got forced out along with the swarf allowing the hole to be tapped to its fullest depth. i cant find any reference to them on the internet.

not quite the same, but we used lard when I was an apprentice. Tends to whiff a bit after a year or two on the bench !

You can get tubs of tallow from places like Amazon. Fill the hole with a spatula of some sort.

If you happen to be traveling in northern France or Belgium, look for "Blanc de boeuf" (it is used to fry Pommes frites), inexpensive (3.99 Eur \1 kg).
