Hi

Whenever I try to view a back issue of ME I get a page that says "An Error Has Occured, I'm sorry but we cannot processyour request at this time (bad referrer)

I have tried several times over this weekend with the same result. Previously it has worked perfectly.

Any thoughts of what is going/ I am doing wrong please.

Many thanks

Nick

Most likely to be something your end. I have just logged in as you and been able to view the archive without problems.

Possibly an update that has come through on your device or clashing with other software. If you have another device to view on such as a tablet or phone that would be worth trying to narrow things down failing that try a different browser on your existing device.

Hi Nick, this has come up several times in the past.

It appears to be an issue at the user's computer that is probably related to the status of your flash player.

See here for more information:

www.model-engineer.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=135916

It seems to be specific to some computers, but trying a different browser or flash player seems to help.

Many thanks for all help and advice.

By some miracle (with same browser, without any changes) I have been able to view the article this morning.

Computers! I hate them!

Thanks again

Nick

(If it cannot be fixed with an 1/2 inch A/F spanner, I probably cannot fix it)

Our hardworking techies sent a squad of highly trained elves over to fix it last night.

Many thanks dear Elvemaster

Viewing the back numbers (self steering riding trucks) consistently. But, cannot print! Perhaps the elves could carve the articles in stone and leave them at the door to my workshop? <big grin>

Regards

Nick

Note to self, must learn how to do the winking smiley thingys.

Assuming it the ones that start in 4189 then you should be able to print. If not what issues are you trying to print from?

When you get to the page you want click it which will zoom in and at the top you should see a tab "print this page" click on that and it can be printed to paper or PDF.

Many, Many, thanks for continuing your assistance.

You have the article I am interested in spot on.

I have this morning tried printing from two different printers. One over Wifi, the other by USB cable. I ran troubleshooter on both with no issues. Also I printed succesfully from other websites (Ebay) from the same browser (firefox) without isssues. By having the print queue open whilst printing I can see the document appear, spool, print and disappear from the queue.

When attempting printing I did as you suggest with the tab at the top and also from the print icon at the side of the open magazine page., where you can choose multiple pages. When printing ME I get the dialouge box (as a seperate small window) similar to the left hand white section of the jpg in your post. I press OK and this box disappears but nothing in the print queue.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks

Nick

I have just printed off a page without a problem this time using the icon at the side of the page this time.

Have you tried printing to PDF rather than a paper copy I have also done that OK, you should then be able to view the pdf or print from that.

Hi Jason

Thanks for the further help. You are a moderator, does that mean you are connected with ME, its publishers or web presence owners? Or are you a volunteer, as many in our hobby are, always willing to help others?

I took the PDF route you suggest from an Ebay page. I sucessfully downloaded and saved a pdf of the page. When doing the same from ME, I choose PDF from printer dialogue box, a barbers pole type icon opens in a new small window, windows blue "I'm working" cursor appears for several minutes. This cursor returns to normal arrow, barbers pole and print dialogue box disappear. No sign of a pdf to save or print!

Just renewed print and digital for another year. Thanks again for your help and do not wish to antagonise those who genuinely wish to help. Where do I go to to get what I thought I paid for? It has worked fine until now.

Kind regards

Nick

Yes I'm just a volunteer and this is about as far as I can help. Do have a read through the thread that Neil linked to yesterday as that has some suggestions such as trying a different browser etc. If that does not work give more details of your system as was requested from the user in the linked thread and hopefully Neil or Kate may be able to help further(they both get paid to do that)

Also look at your inbox -top of page.

Many thanks for your help Jason

I can succesfully print back issues ME 4605 and later (higher Nos). Using control P brings up print dialogue box and print completes succesfully. The look of the back issue viewer is different for these issues, there is no print tab.

Earlier issues (4597 or 4588) have a viewer that only has a print tab at the top. Printing from this does not work, nor does control P.

Even earlier issues (4189) have print tab at the top and print icon at side, these and control p do not work.

It would appear to me that your older archived back issues are held in formats not comapatible with up to date browsers, such as Firefox 66.

How do I print the parts of back issues that interest me. I paid for this sevice last year, and have just renewed for another year.

Regards

Nick

Nick as has been suggested by me, Neil and in the linked to thread you could try another Browser, I managed to print OK using Chrome. Neil generally uses Firefox and he says he was able to print OK so may not be a Firefox issue.

Have you tried another device as I suggested earlier?

Thanks again Jason

Its good that a volunteer like yourself has solutions. I will download chrome or similar and give it a go. Its a good work round but does not solve the base problem.

I think now that mytimemedia need to engage with me. It would seem that there is a backward compatability issue that needs to be adressed. I can print recent back numbers, but an up to date browser cannot print older back numbers.

There appears to be at least three ways the stored back numbers are presented. The latest allows printing, and you may zoom to a size that works for the user. Full marks.

On the older back numbers viewing works fine if a bit clunky, only two sizes (too small to read or zoom to a size that keeps you continuously scrolling). Unable to print without experimentation downloading other older browsers. Nill Point.

Regards

Nick

Perhaps myTIMEmedia could get a LORD to wield a SONIC 1/2" A/F SPANNER, please.<grin>

From Neil's lack of posts over the last couple of days I assume he is not wearing his MTM gnomes hat at the moment but I'll ask him to look at this thread again when he is back in the grotto.

regarding size of old back issues, once you click on a page it will become larger and then a roll of the mouse wheel will allow the size to be altered, just did it to confirm on the oldest mag in the archive.

I would be interested to know how you are printing from the most recent mags as anything published this year can't easily be printed apart from snipping which reduces resolution and is a long winded way to do things. These use an HTML5 viewer not a Flash based one.

Hi Jason

What I was doing was print to PDF. I had given up with actual prints, as away from printer.

With older back numbers we went around the print dialogue box, barbers pole....... sequence with nothing happening.

Using the latest issues that you say are HTML5 it appeared that control P worked. I could save a pdf file. I have just viewed the PDF files I saved. There is the page as viewed but a big blank space where the ME content should be. Hmmm, should have checked what actually printed to pdf, not assume that what I had saved was useable.

What is the cut off (how old the back number has to be) before you can print. Clearly there would be no point subscribing as I do to print + digital if you can print the digital. Some smart ass with a commercial printer would be selling the lastest magazine issue at a cut price. They would only have printing costs, no editorial etc. expences. What copyright is all about, fully understand the commercial issue.

As to" use mouse wheel", not possible with laptop touch pad!

Many thanks again.

This is why in this thread and the one linked to by Neil requests about your system, etc have been asked for, yet are not forth coming. It saves people wasting time guessing what you have.

Hi Jason

So what have I failed to do from the link provided? I have :-

Checked subscription status and user details

Checked cookie policies

Emptied Cache

Checked for latest Flash Player

Ensured that Plug ins are working

Noted that you may need Kate on the case, but she could be too busy with GDPR law

Not using a VPN

Reluctant to start downloading other browsers in the hope it may solve my problem

I have received my latest subscription confirmation email so no Spam issues

Have I missed something?

Some more information on my system:-

I use a Dell Laptop

It is black

It has a 15” screen

I do not have the touch screen facility enabled

How does this and the lack of mouse help with my print problem?

If you need other system info then please specify. I may supply via private mail, it would leave me vulnerable if I post too much info on an open forum.

Many thanks yet again Jason.

Regards

Nick

Hi Nick,

I too have found difficulties with printing older issues I get the dialogue but nothing happens.

I fear this is because they were prepared using out-of date versions of flash

The new reader has printing disabled, although I am in a dialogue trying to get this enabled.

To be fair, we have never advertised or sold access to the archive as being for printing - we have just promoted the archive as online access for reading back issues. In fact the powers that be are very uncomfortable with people printing them as PDFs because they reappear as pirate copies on line. In the last year we have issued over 3,000 take-down notices for these pirate copies. This stance does make it hard for me to persuade them to get printing implemented on the new version.

I'm sorry this is probably not what you want to hear.

Neil

Edit: I should also add that the terms and conditions for digital subscriptions states: " For those MyTime Media titles that include an Online Archive, this uses Flash Player, which is not supported on Kindles. You cannot download any of these issues to PDF to store or reproduce on your computer and any effort to do so will be classified as an infringement on copyright. "

.

Neil,

Thus far, I have simply observed this discussion ... but that last Edit leaves me bewildered.

Can you please explain why the terms specifically mention Kindles, but not iOS devices ?

Thanks
