YouTube Videos

On youtube click share and then embed.

You can ignore the various settings and use the defaults.

Copy the code and then in your posting click the 'YouTube' icon.

Paste the code in the box and then click OK, an 'iframe' box will appear in your post.

Once you have made your posting the video will be embedded.

Embedding Tweets and other content

The blue icon with <> on it to the right of the YouTube one can be used to embed other things like tweets etc. that give you html 'embed' code when you click share. In the same way click share, embed and copy the code.

Paste the code into the box that appears when you click the blue button, then click OK.

The embedded object will not appear fully until you post is saved and re-loaded.

How to insert pictures from another website

Right-click the photo and select 'copy image location'.

Click the embed external image icon:

Paste the image location into the URL box.

Ideally, type a short description into the 'alt text' box.

If the width shows as more than 600 pixels:

  1. Make sure the padlock icon is closed (if it isn't, click it)
  2. Enter a suitable width no more than than 600 pixels (400-500 pixels is often ideal)

Click OK.

The best way to post links

Right click the link and choose 'copy link location'

Type some meaningful text in your message such as 'this page'.

Highlight your text.

Click the embed link icon:

Paste the link location into the URL box.

Click OK.

Your text will now link to the URL.

Second best way

If you don't enter any text and just insert a URL the whole address will show in your draft post.

Once saved it will show as **LINK**

If you want people to see where you are linking too, delete the 'http://' or 'https://' part of the link. You may also want to delete the middle of the link and replace it with '...' if it is very long, or type a description over the top:

Pasting in content

If you paste in content from elsewhere you may get messy formatting.

Use the paste plain text or paste from word icons to avoid this. Just click and follow the instructions.

Tidying up a post

If your post appears and is in a mess, clicking 'edit' within a few minutes of posting will allow you to edit it.

Right clicking on a table or embedded object/image may enable you to get it sorted out.

If the problem is wacky formatting picked up from another source, select the text and try the 'remove formatting' icon:

Neil, I find a quick and easy way to remove formatting when copy/pasting, in Windows anyway, is to use Notepad.
Open a new Notepad document, paste into there, and copy the resulting text.

N.B. you must use Notepad, rather than Wordpad.

Paste that into your forum post on here. Notepad removes pretty much all formatting, barring carriage feed.

It's much quicker to just paste it all in, then select everything and hit the blue eraser icon
