Hi Julian,

Drawings were from Allen models in the US

No idea if it works with the water side disconnected and connected to pressure vessel(Good point and would answer your next question).

IT does work under steam all connected but only pumps a couple of times stops and after a minute restarts only to stop and the cycle goes on.

Pump is at the front of the loco about 14" from the steam valve

Steam cylinder bore is 1" water is 5/8

Cannot see the exhaust as it is piped into the smokebox.

Hope this helps and thanks for taking time to help me.

Ah yes

There are no drain cocks at all in this design.

cheers

No checked the clacks and pipework blockages,Glands were leaking so repacked them ,just need to test again.

When i tried it last week it would pump twice then stop, wait a minute or two and it would start n stop again, strange.

Thread: Boiler Bushes,Headers Etc
03/01/2016 17:37:12

Hi all,

What materials are preferred to use on a copper boiler for the bushes,Gunmetal,SAE660 PB1 Colphos 90 or PB102.

I have seen various suggestions but i wanted your valuable opinions.I believe that Colphos,SAE660 and Gunmetal have small amounts of Zinc in them which i believe are a NO NO ? yet GLR Kennions are quoting SAE as "Ideal for boiler fittings" Very confusing!

Anyway thanks for your input in advance.

Thread: Fusible Plugs

What material would you recommend? Drawing actually says soft solder.

30/12/2015 18:24:52

The reason i originally posted was because i am building a New Zealand designed loco and it has one fitted.I will have to consult our boiler inspector to see if it is OK to omit it.

30/12/2015 18:18:51

Why would you do that Mark?

29/12/2015 10:03:36

Any reason Jason

Got to make one of these for my next project,is normal soft solder Ok or am i better with white metal or lead?
