Thread: Looking for engineers
Get youself a Diamond Toolholder from Eccentric engineering , saves a lot of messing about grinding all the facets by hand . Clamp HSS bit in the jig provided in the kit, a few passes across the wheel, job done.
Thread: show us your workshop.
Steviegtr, keep up the good work !. Have always loved pictures of peoples workshops , mainly for inspiration and the pleasure of seeing the equipment.
Oily rag, why on earth do say you found U tube content extremely sad ?. Were you watching funerals ?. I know its all subjective, but in my opinion, theres everything imaginable on U tube, and most of the time a lot better than TV. Historical, machining, welding, woodwork, battleships, railways, motorcycles, cars, just about anything you can think of !!!.
Thread: David Wilks, Sheffield.
Thanks for the replies . All we can do is hope hes fit and well. Might give that company a ring on Monday !.
Hello all, I know this is a bit of a long shot, but does anyone know whats happened to David Wilks , a machinist from Sheffield. He used to do a lot of videos on U tube about trepanning , on hard steels like Inconel . Its been many months since his last video and am getting concerned, probably like a lot of people that something has happened to him !.
Do hope hes OK . Many thanks.
Thread: San Ou K72 - 200 4Jaw Chuck Sitrep
Im lost !?. Must be missing something here, its an independant 4 jaw, so what you have written tell us nothing .....sorry. Unless you mean the chuck is a 4 jaw self centreing one ????.
Thread: Cheap Chinese 3jaw chuck.
Hello all, bought a 4 inch self centreing Chinese 3jaw chuck (£43) off ebay, made a backplate and fitted it to a spin indexer. Chucked a piece of 3/4 inch ground bar and checked the runnout - 1 1/2 thousands of an inch !!!!.
Not bad at all. Incredible value.
As an aside, my friend asked me some time ago if I could repair a bottom guide runner of a VW Transporter sliding door , VW price about £110 . Got one off ebay , Chinese of course , for £8.90. Beautifully made too. Delivery included. Bloody hell !!.

Thread: Gender neutral ships.
PC gone bleeding mad. Scottish Maritime museum removing all reference to ships being referred to as 'she', they must now be called 'it'. I hope its an April fools joke. Please someone tell me its a joke....
Thread: Notre Dame
Alan Waddington 2, well said. Makes me angry when I see people on street corners in the rain collecting money for cancer research, when they will now spend billions on a building which is just a monument to human stupidity.
Thread: Just desserts
Plasma, well said !. The poacher would have died in agony, .
Reminds me of the picture of a certain prince kneeling by the side of a 1 ton water buffalo he had just shot, he didnt feel any pain though.
Thread: Simple WorkshopTips
Put a blob of red paint by the zero on the lathe crosslide dial, so easy to return it back without looking at the numbers when screwcutting.
Thread: Why do we do it?
Silly old duffer , +1
Thread: Lathe screwcutting
Buy a Hardinge HLVH with the "outside" Myford changewheel set up for metric pitches if necessary, makes screwcutting an absolute joy.
Also, if you can reverse the spindle with a forward reverse clutch setup you can disingage the half nuts when cutting metric with an imperial leadscrew. Theres a good article somewhere by a chap whos name , I think, is Conrad Hoffman on the subject.
Thread: PCM Boring head.
Hello Chris, you are right, one for the scrap bin !. I only bought it to convert for ball turning on the lathe, so didnt want anything fancy.
Hello all, saw this on ebay yesterday (in the post!)and took a chance on it and for £15 , seemed worth it. It certainly looks well made and being Swiss, probably is.
Thread: Lathe Identification
Carl Wilson said it was utter shite, I dont think its that good.
Thread: Free High Speed Steel
Bazyle, have PM'd Deric !. To all, the bits are going to a good home. Thanks.
