Thread: BA sizes
4 BA is 0.248, so near as you can get
I had a similar experience after taking Gabapentin, rapidly developed a cataract in one eye.
Had it removed and vision was restored immediately, however it did deteriorate again soon after.I had to then have laser treatment to correct the problem, apparently it is well documented effect, where the lens capsule turns opaque.
Only after effect now is very bad dry eye syndrome, and I have to use lubricating eyedrops regularly.
Yes there can be problems, but overall it is well worth it and completely painless.
Thread: Warco Wm18 Spindle lock
Have a look at this thread, might give you some ideas
Thread: New member in Kent
After burning the house down with a lipo fire, the wife wasn't to keen on me carrying on, and then I had some cataract problems and thought it was time to give up flying and concentrate on my Locos.
Haven't flown for the last 5 years, But I still stay in touch with a few of the old members
Yes we do, you taught me to fly fixed wing when I joined the club
Welcome aboard. Did you ever belong to Croydon Airport Model Flying Club
Thread: Warco Minor Mill - Spindle Lock
Below is the solution that I came up with for my Amadeal mill. Looking at pictures of your mill, I think a similar solution could be used.
The large collar is clamped to the fixed spindle, and the smaller collar has flats cut into it which locate on the spanner flats on the quill.
I have found it to be very easy to use, so much easier than finding the big spanner to stop the quill turning
Thread: Need help making a camshaft
there is a web page with a program called camcalc at
I have never used it but a member of my club has recently produced a camshat using it
Hope this helps
Thread: AM25LV mill wiring
I have put a photo of the wiring diagram from my manual in my photo album.
Hope it is of use to you
Thread: testing injectors.
Have a look at this page where a simplified Bill Carter test rig is described.
SMEE has the original Bill Carter test rig in its collection. 3 of us spent an afternoon using it to test some homemade injectors, although we could not get it to work properly, probably operator error.
Thread: What Regulator type.
just a word of warning, if you do use the Simplex design, do not use brass for the regulator tube, it will dezincify over time inside the boiler.
I have just had to replace 2 simplex regulators with this problem. I have made the replacements using stainless steel tube.
Thread: Inclined smoke tubes
I have recently finished a Super Simplex boiler, and that also has inclined tubes
Thread: Why Column gear shift
I hope that your clutch never goes, the parts are dear enough but if you add on the labour and the price of the special tools to replace it, it definately makes your eyes water.
Clever bit of kit though
Thread: Emco FB-2 Manual
Or to increase the quandry I could also provide you with a well scanned PDF
Thread: TRACTION ENGINE CYLINDER TO BOILER SEALING
I tried boss white on my 2" Fowler, but it didnt work. Redid the joint with Steamseal, graphite Foliac , from the local Plumb Centre, no problems
Thread: After a bigger machine vice
On mine, c=178mm, because the rear jaw extends out beyond the body of the vice.
You can actually hold an object that is longer than the vice itself.
I know it is over budget, but these are great , wouldn't be without mine now
Thread: Help needed with 5" Simplex
The book you have ordered is the correct book for the Simplex, which ran as a construction series in The Model Engineer.
The reason yours may not appear the same is that Simplex is a freelance design, not a scale model, and many people do modifications to suit their own needs or desires. If you go to an exhibition where there are any Simplex's on display, you will rarely find two that look the same.
If you post a picture of your loco we would be able to confirm that it is a Simplex.
Thread: What is it
It is a rear disc brake cylinder rewind tool used on early Rover and Jaguar models with inboard disc brakes , when replacing the disc pads
